Come
and do "The Goose," the Galloping Goose trail that is.
Built over an abandoned rail line, The Goose is the most western
extension of the Trans Canada Trail and offers unique views of the
southern Vancouver Island coastline.
Within an easy
days' ride from Victoria lies Sooke, where you will find the "just
right" bed and breakfast for you, in one of our Galloping Goose
Trail B&B’s. Details of one that is sure to suit can be
found in the "View Accommodations" section, all of which
are either on the trail or scant minutes away.
The trail will
take you through the many contrasts of pasture and farm, to rocky
crags and beaches, all interspersed with water and mountain views.
Ever present are the stately forests, the dominant evergreen of
the fir providing a backdrop for such others as Maple, Alder and
Oak as they change through the seasons.
Take time to
enjoy the views at Matheson Lake and Roche Cove before the spectacular
Sooke Basin and Harbour. The Sooke river with its famous "Pot
Holes" offers the chance of a refreshing swim, or perhaps you
want to reserve that for the next day and right now check into that
‘’just right’’ B&B. Your host will be
pleased to offer recommendations for dinner at one of Sooke’s
many fine restaurants or cafés.
Continuing along
the gently graded trail and into the hills of Sooke will lead you
to Leechtown, an abandoned gold mining town. While for a different
kind of adventure, Sooke offers visitors the diversity of whale
watching, salmon fishing, kayaking and hiking tours. Picnic lunches
are available to suit all tastes.
The luxury of
a massage in the privacy of your own Galloping Goose Trail B&B
is available to you, and your host will be pleased to make all arrangements.
We hope you will also visit the many fine galleries and artisans
in and around Sooke. Please contact any of the B&B’s listed
on this website for more information.
